Follow up to yesterday's post

I should have included this in the rant. From Wikipedia:

  1. Strong theist. 100 per cent probability of God. In the words of C.G. Jung: "I do not believe, I know."
  2. De facto theist. Very high probability but short of 100 per cent. "I don't know for certain, but I strongly believe in God and live my life on the assumption that he is there."
  3. Leaning towards theism. Higher than 50 per cent but not very high. "I am very uncertain, but I am inclined to believe in God."
  4. Completely impartial. Exactly 50 per cent. "God's existence and non-existence are exactly equiprobable."
  5. Leaning towards atheism. Lower than 50 per cent but not very low. "I do not know whether God exists but I'm inclined to be skeptical."
  6. De facto atheist. Very low probability, but short of zero. "I don't know for certain but I think God is very improbable, and I live my life on the assumption that he is not there."
  7. Strong atheist. "I know there is no God, with the same conviction as Jung knows there is one."

I would suggest that most people I know would call themselves a 3 to a 5. I'm a 6.95. Gotta leave a little room in case Jesus does visit the SuperBowl....

Hey Doug - I'd love to get together. It has been a while... I havent checked your BLOG in a while so did some catching up. Let me comment on your discussions on atheism... Knowing God personally and calling yourself religious is totally different. I'll pick on Americans for a moment - When I hear Republican "religious people" speak as the most selfish people on planet earth (I shouldn't have to pay for someone else... Our bombs only kill the evil ones (my paraphrase)) - and say that they know God - I am offended. The real God is worth getting to know. The god (yes lower case on purpose like I have noted that you do) ... the god that I see represented by most is not the real God. The God who loves me, you and every one of those Republicans who misrepresent him every day (and Bruce M. - don't know know much about him) is very REAL. The problem is that most religious people don't get it. then they give ammunition to most who don't believe.

I really hope that you and Laura are doing well. I really look forward to our next visit...

Hey Doug - one more quick comment. You are right. Jesus would never ever show up at Superbowl. That would be to force you and Bruce to believe. He would never force you to believe. It is totally everyone's choice to believe or not to believe. Anyone who really knows God would fight for your choice to not believe ...or to believe...

Sorry readers - I meant Bill - not Bruce...
